| Overview |
| CD-R is an abbreviation for
"Compact-Disc-Recordable" on which data can be recorded.
Data is recorded chemically: As the laser light hits the dye
layer, it bakes the dye, forming a pit. Because you can neither
erase nor overwrite the data that was written once, you can keep
incorruptible copies of data. The volume of a CD-R disc is 650MB,
the same amount of data for 6,000 ~ 10,000 pages of letter size. A
CD-R can be replayed with a CD player or CD-ROM on a personal computer
at your home.
With a CD-RW, you can directly overwrite data as
many times as you want - something write- once CD-R media cannot do.
CD-RWs are particularly useful for data backups. Another advantage
is the ability to erase data no longer needed and to reuse the disc.
In this class, you will learn how to use a CD-R
and RW. The class is presented with hands-on activities and
handouts.
