Scanning Workshop (2 hours)

Course Length:  1Classes, 2 hours each
Prerequisites:  Familiar with Windows Operating System, mouse, and keyboarding experience

Overview
Scanning is the process through which hard copy documents and images are converted into digital data.  An optical scanner is a device that can read text or illustrations printed on paper and translate the information into a form the computer can use.  Today, scanners are used in business and at home to scan photos, books, magazines, and paper documents - even real items like coins, cloth and leaves--into a form that can be incorporated into greeting cards, business presentations, Web pages, archived files, and many other programs for many different uses.

Course Outline and Objectives
This class is intended for persons who own or plan to purchase a scanner, or who intend to use the scanner in the Learning Center Computer Lab.  Handout materials are provided.  Because only one scanner is available, the class is presented in lecture/demonstration format, with minimal hands-on activities.

  Topics Include:

  • Scanner uses

  • Resolution (scanning, optical v. interpolated, printer, screen)
