Microsoft Works (6 hours)

 
Course Length:  3 Classes, 2 hours each
Prerequisites:  Familiar with Windows XP Operating System
 
Overview
Microsoft Works is a software package commonly found on computers purchased for home use.  Works includes tools needed to create letters, mailing labels, budgets, check lists, inventories, school reports and greeting cards.  Word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs, as well as a calendar, address book, and Internet and email programs are the types of applications used in Works.
 
Course Outline and Objectives
By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Open and use the Task Launcher
  • Open and print documents from Works templates
  • Use the Works Help System
  • Create a word processor document
  • Create a spreadsheet document
 
Using the Task Launcher
  • Physical elements of the window
  • Explore Tasks, Programs, and History tabs
  • View word processor, spreadsheet, and database templates
  • Use Works Help

Creating a Word Processor Document

  • Open a blank document
  • Enter text
  • Find and replace text
  • Insert a date
  • Check spelling and grammar
  • Format characters
  • Format paragraphs
  • Margins
  • Insert page brakes
  • Create a table
  • Printing
Creating a Spreadsheet
  • Open a spreadsheet using a wizard
  • Move around in a spreadsheet
  • Select and deselect a cell, range
  • Enter date and time
  • Modify cell contents
  • Perform calculations using EasyCalc
  • Enter a formula
  • Insert a function in a cell
  • Move and sort data
  • Move and copy cell contents
  • Format a spreadsheet
  • Adjust column widths and row height
  • Apply shading and borders
