COURSE DESCRIPTION: In the Information Age, knowledge of computers is an essential skill.  In "You Can Build Your Own Computer," you learn about computers in the best way possible, by building a computer from the ground up.  No other class compares with the in-depth instruction and hands-on learning that is achieved in this 30-hour course.  Learning about the inner workings of a computer makes it easier to build, troubleshoot, and upgrade every computer you may ever own.

In addition to expert instruction and easy-to-follow texts, this course provides the hardware components and tools needed to enable you to build your own PC.

COURSE OBJECTIVES  After successful completion of this course, participants will:

  • Identify popular components in today's computer hardware

  • Match power supplies, CPUs, motherboards, memory, and hard drives

  • Correctly install the Pentium-class processor

  • Assemble all other essential computer components

PREREQUISITES:  This course has been designed to provide information on building your own personal computer, regardless of the student's experience.

COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS:  To receive a grade of Complete, a student is expected to satisfactorily complete 60% of the course requirements.  If a student fails to complete 60% of the required work, a grade of Incomplete will be applied.  Students may request make-up sessions if needed.  These sessions will be scheduled as needed for any student to satisfactorily complete the course requirements within 30 days after the end of the scheduled class sessions.

REFUND POLICY: If a participant attends only one session, no payment will be requested.  After two sessions, full payment is required.  Attendance in any part of a session constitutes full attendance for the class session.
