MICHIGAN BUILDERS LICENSE CLASS

VENDOR: Home Building Workshops, Inc.

COURSE HOURS: 30 (10 sessions, 3 hours each)

COURSE PREREQUISITE: None

1-810-797-7998

BOOK FEE: $60 (optional)

TUITION: $600

COURSE DESCRIPTION: This course will instill in students the knowledge and confidence required to pass the written examination that leads to a Michigan Residential Builder License issued by the Residential Builders' and Maintenance and Alterations Contractor's Board.

The program is divided into two parts to parallel the structure of the examination.  Topics include: business and law, rules and regulations, building codes, carpentry, practical remodeling, construction mathematics, construction methods, blueprint reading (for residential and light construction), and cost estimating.  Students are taught virtually all aspects of residential construction, along with how to work with experts in the construction field.  Each class meeting has a question-and-answer session regarding material covered in that class and a sample quiz made up of questions similar to those on the licensing exam.

The program goes beyond what the student needs to pass the exam, exposing problems and pitfalls that arise in "real-world" situations related to residential construction.  It covers such ancillary topics as property acquisition and construction financing.  The ultimate objective is to make students successful in the business should they choose to pursue it.
